Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Assault Dies
The female victim who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack near a bus shelter within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.
The deceased woman, aged 34 years, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 21:00 GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.
The suspect, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the attack.
He was previously accused with attempted murder but following the woman's death charges were upgraded to include murder.
Police Response
Authorities stated officers would be in the downtown area on Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.
Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who might have observed the accused, identified as a Black British national, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Attack Site Details
The knife attack occurred near the Bullring shopping centre, across from the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act with investigators stating efforts continue to determine why it happened.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity after completing her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.
She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", adding that some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"Many co-workers take public transport, take the tram... our safety is at risk essentially, in the downtown area."
Ashley Birks, 25, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently to see his girlfriend who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.
"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... considering a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
