The French Prime Minister Resigns After Less Than a Month Amidst Broad Criticism of New Ministers

The French political crisis has deepened after the freshly installed PM dramatically resigned within moments of announcing a cabinet.

Rapid Exit During Government Instability

France's latest leader was the third French prime minister in a single year, as the country continued to lurch from one political crisis to another. He quit hours before his opening government session on the start of the week. Macron accepted the prime minister's resignation on Monday morning.

Intense Opposition Over New Government

France's leader had faced furious criticism from opposition politicians when he presented a fresh cabinet that was mostly identical since last month's dismissal of his former PM, François Bayrou.

The proposed new government was dominated by President Emmanuel Macron's allies, leaving the government largely similar.

Political Reaction

Opposition parties said Lecornu had stepped back on the "major shift" with earlier approaches that he had pledged when he came to power from the unfavored former PM, who was removed on the ninth of September over a planned spending cuts.

Future Political Course

The question now is whether the president will decide to end the current assembly and call another early vote.

Marine Le Pen's political ally, the head of the opposition figure's far-right National Rally party, said: "There cannot be a restoration of calm without a return to the ballot box and the legislature's dismissal."

He added, "It was very clearly Emmanuel Macron who determined this government himself. He has failed to comprehend of the political situation we are in."

Vote Demands

The far-right party has demanded another poll, confident they can boost their representation and influence in the legislature.

France has gone through a time of uncertainty and political crisis since the president called an inconclusive snap election last year. The legislature remains separated between the political factions: the left, the nationalist group and the centre, with no absolute dominance.

Budget Pressure

A financial plan for next year must be passed within weeks, even though government factions are at odds and his leadership ended in less than a month.

Opposition Motion

Parties from the progressive side to conservative wing were to hold meetings on the start of the week to decide whether or not to vote to remove Lecornu in a opposition challenge, and it seemed that the government would fall before it had even started work. The prime minister reportedly decided to step down before he could be removed.

Cabinet Positions

The majority of the key cabinet roles revealed on the previous evening remained the unchanged, including the legal affairs head as justice minister and arts and heritage leader as arts department head.

The position of financial affairs leader, which is crucial as a split assembly struggles to agree on a financial plan, went to a Macron ally, a presidential supporter who had formerly acted as industry and energy minister at the commencement of his current leadership period.

Unexpected Appointment

In a surprise move, Bruno Le Maire, a presidential supporter who had acted as financial affairs leader for an extended period of his term, returned to administration as defence minister. This angered officials across the spectrum, who viewed it as a sign that there would be no questioning or alteration of Macron's pro-business stance.
